Digestive health platform FoodMarble is creating a breathalyzer-type device to measure users’ digestive health, as featured in The Irish Times. The company’s first device, the FoodMarble Aire, was a small, app-connected test device that measured levels of hydrogen in a person’s gut, helping them and their care teams target foods causing digestive discomfort.

Now, the company is rolling out its second version of the device, Aire 2, which measures methane. Produced by two-thirds of people, methane gas can build up in the gut as a result of certain foods and cause digestive discomfort. With the new version of the Aire device along with its accompanying app, users will be able to regularly monitor the presence of these gases in their gut and assess how their food, eating habits, stress, and sleep impact digestive health.

With this data, patients and their doctors or nutritionists can then plan to make lifestyle changes to improve the patient’s gut microbiome.
