Assistive robot maker Labrador Systems (HAX 2019) is partnering up with insurance, investing, and retirement company Nationwide to launch a multi-state pilot program of its devices.

After Labrador first introduced its “Retriever” robot at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the company has been touring the U.S. to meet with professionals in industries serving older adults. These industries, including insurance, senior living, home health, skilled nursing, and more, may benefit from Labrador’s assistive robots in a variety of care-giving settings.

The robotic device, which is currently in the pilot stage, can transport large and small objects for individuals affected by mobility issues. Using 3D vision, a navigation system, and obstacle sensors, the Labrador Retriever can be summoned when users pre-plan the time and location they want the robot to operate. Eventually, the device will be operable by Amazon Alexa voice control.

“With Nationwide’s support, we are able to expand our pilot programs to work with multiple organizations across the country and allow more people to experience the Retriever firsthand and provide feedback on their individual needs,” explained Labrador Systems CEO Mike Dooley.
