Just eight months ago, HAX officially launched its flagship location in Newark, NJ, a 35,000 sq ft space equipped with chemical and mechatronics labs as well as an array of fabrication equipment. Today, more than 40 founding teams are hard at work in the vast facility with support from our crack team in Newark as well as support engineers in Pune, India and Shenzhen, China, on technologies ranging from robots that coat the inside of gas pipelines and to electrolysers that enable totally green copper production. Because so many new technologies are surfacing in every nook and cranny of industry, we have been searching for an additional General Partner to join the team to help connect our founders to capital.

I am happy to announce that we found her! Please meet Katie Hoffman, who joined SOSV as our ninth General Partner and the fourth partner at HAX. Together with Andy Gollach, Susan Schofer, our Chief Science Officer, and Ji Ke, our Chief Technology Officer, we now have a 5-strong investment team at HAX in Newark.

Katie Hoffman, General Partner at SOSV and a Partner at HAX

Katie is nothing short of a perfect find for HAX and SOSV. She joins us from Regeneration.VC, a firm she co-founded, where the mission is to “regenerate industry value chains to meet planetary boundaries.” At HAX, along with investing in new companies, Katie will focus on helping our founders raise their follow-on seed and series A rounds from institutional investors as well as help them navigate the rich maze of public and private, non-dilutive capital.

Katie is fantastically well qualified for all that, thanks to her considerable experience mobilizing global investor coalitions focused on decarbonization and resource security across more than 100 projects. As Managing Director at Etho Capital, just to take one important example, she led the launch of Etho’s flagship Climate Leadership Index and ETF, scaling its assets to over $100 million. She also co-chaired the NEXUS Global Energy and Environment group, where she focused on mobilizing family office investor syndicates and led private sector delegations to UN negotiations.

It’s credit to Katie’s rare and remarkable breadth that she also knows her way around early-stage, deep-tech ecosystems due to her work developing incubator and accelerator programs with the University of California and New Energy Nexus. And I would be remiss not to mention Katie’s leadership on diversity, a priority SOSV shares. She is the founder and chair of Women Moving Markets, a group dedicated to helping technical female founders and funders to thrive.

As for the classic details, Katie holds degrees in environmental science and history from the University of California, Berkeley. She lives in New York City and will work from our HAX office in Newark. You might catch her figure skating or hiking.

In case you have not already noticed, and I speak for everyone at SOSV, we could not be more excited to have Katie join us as a general partner at SOSV and partner at HAX. I am sure you will be seeing a lot of her!
