Bisu (HAX 11), a Tokyo-based startup developing a lab-grade testing device for at-home diagnostics, has raised a $3.2M seed round. This brings the company’s total raised capital to $4.3M. The seed round was led by QUAD, with SOSV, ASICS Ventures Corporation, 15th Rock Ventures, and Pacifico Investments participating. Bisu is also receiving backing from athletic shoe giant ASICS, which plans to collaborate with Bisu on its health and fitness initiatives.

Bisu’s key product, Bisu Body Coach, includes disposable test sticks and a reader that connects to a mobile app. Users can test a range of biomarkers with the disposable test strips in two minutes. Using spectrometry and real-time end-to-end measurement, Bisu’s microfluidic “lab-on-a-chip” technology eliminates the measurement timing issues of existing test strips. Samples such as saliva, blood, urine, or sweat are manipulated inside a small channel to carry out biological or chemical processes.

Test results are transmitted to Bisu’s app, which provides clear readouts on nutrient indicators, including vitamins, minerals, hydration, pH, ketones, and uric acid. Bisu Body Coach can then provide personalized recommendations based on a user’s preferences, goals, sleep, and activity.
