Avra van der Zee

Avra is a General Partner at SOSV where she helps lead HAX’s global climate investing strategy. Avra is a seasoned climate entrepreneur and investor specializing in scaling startups. With a background rooted in operations, Avra joined SOSV after five years as COO of Elemental Impact, where she oversaw investments, communications, and operations, and helped steer the organization’s long-term strategy and growth. Avra’s approach to investing is informed by her time as an operator, including  as COO and General Counsel of JUMP, an SOSV investment, where she helped guide the team from its early days through its acquisition by Uber. 

Today, in addition to her role at SOSV, she holds a number of board and advisory positions including as Board Chair for the biochar startup Made of Air, a Director for the green cement company BioMason, and as a member of Novo Holding’s Planetary Health Advisory Group. Avra remains dedicated to the practical, day-to-day work of helping founders navigate the complexities of scaling hardware and critical climate technologies.
