Duncan has a diverse background in human factors research, industrial design, product development, manufacturing and business.
He took numerous products from first concepts through research, funding, design, development, manufacturing and assembly to final sales of the product.
He joined IDEO in October 2011 after spending a number of years back and forth between the UK and China working closely with manufacturers to launch the designs and products that he created under a start-up brand.
He is now Program Director at HAX where he’s been a mentor since its inception. Prior to co-founding his own business, he worked for two years as a Human Factors Research Associate at the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre, part of the Royal College of Art (RCA) in the UK.
One of his projects at the RCA, “grab it”, which looked at the everyday act of cooking and handling hot objects in the kitchen through a new and human-centered approach, was exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York in 2005. The product has since become part of the museum’s permanent collection before being taken into production under another start-up brand he founded.
