Recent decades have delivered few disruptive manufacturing innovations that have changed the way fashion is made. But while knitting has had its revolutions, weaving, which gives rise to shirts, trousers, jackets and jeans, has lagged. SOSV HAX portfolio company, unspun, is working to change that.

unspun adapts circular weaving looms, normally used for tubular tarps and bags, to weave variable-diameter trousers in a single piece. No cutting, no sewing, no side seams. Its OneWeave machine makes zero-waste trousers on demand with minimal manual labor and lead times of days not month.

Arvind Limited, one of India’s largest textile and apparel conglomerates, with annual revenues above $1 billion, is installing the first two commercial OneWeave machines at its facility in Ahmedabad with plans to deliver its first orders in early 2027. unspun already runs seven machines at its own facility in Emeryville, CA with customers including REI, Walmart and Gap.
